Paul Cezanne

Paul Cezanne was a famous French painter who focused on Post-Impressionism. He was born January 19th, 1839 and died December 22nd, 1906. His work is said to have made the transition from Impressionism to Cubism. His work is known for its repetitive, small brushtrokes and planes of colour; that all build up to form complex fields which show his intense observation of his subjects. His early works were characterized by large, heavy figures drawn dreamily in the landscape and background but as his personal style matured, his works were lighter and more about direct observation. He is best known for many of his still life paintings.
